It’s an Important and Popular Fact That Things Are Not Always What They Seem

Ford Prefect knows that it doesn’t matter a pair of dingo’s kidneys whether my house gets settled or not.

I, however, remain very worried.

All around me, real people are doing real things. I am one of the unreal,  a fake. I am a visitor looking in at families playing in swimming pools and visiting theme parks. I am a consumer of stories about couples going out for nights-on-the-town, to the movies or snagging much-sought-after theater tickets. I am a student of mythology listening to tales of summer. It is like I am visiting a museum, and if I hit the red button when it is lit, I can watch as the people behind the glass go about their daily lives while I stumble around  in my ridiculous new normal – my world of boxes and packing tape fraught with pasta dinners, half-full cans of warm pop, and missing shoes.

I am looking forward to my summer starting sometime around this fall. If that makes sense to you, grab your towel and hang on.

Because, at this point in the move, it is time to embrace the absurd. Just know that I’ve calculated my chance of surviving the move, and I don’t think you’ll like it.

However, I found my hair dryer today in my mom’s garage. Things just might be looking up.
